@tuxedoed_terriers: It’s wild the things that people think are ok to say about small dogs or that people somehow think is “reassuring”. If you can’t train your dog not to snatch something out of someone’s arms, no I’m not putting my dog on the ground where I have even less of an ability to protect him. #greenscreen #smalldogsoftiktok #dogtok
If someone’s dog would try to snatch my dogs out of my arm I’m sure as heck not putting them on the ground to see what happens. It doesn’t matter what someone is holding, a child, a small dog, a bag of takeout, if your dog is close enough to try to grab what someone is holding they’re out of control and too close.

The most annoying thing about both of these comments is how they act concerned for the small dog—no! If you were actually concerned, you would change your own behavior and your dog’s.

Doesn't matter which of my dogs I have, the 6.5lbs or the 60lbs one, or if I have both... any other dog comes rushing toward us then I'm aggressively defending myself and my dog(s). The little one can't defend herself and I refuse to let the bigger one be put in a position to get labeled as a vicious or dangerous dog.

as someone who has owned large, powerful dogs in the past: I will ALWAYS pick up my small dog when I pass your unruly large dog

Why are these dogs going out in public if the owners are well aware of their behavior

I hate that they tried to build sympathy with the rescue comment. I have a rescue dog and I did this really cool thing called training him so he’s not ruining someone else’s day. My dog was reactive (out of excitement) but explosively so…so I trained him. I trained him so he wouldn’t be a nuisance, this persons dog should 100% be muzzled if they are out in public on trails and such or trained so they don’t try to go after small dogs like this. Sounds like a prey drive thing which can be managed.

😭 a dog was acting threatengly to my cat when I was traveling. This was at a gas station and I had my cat in the grass in a harness and leash.
I picked up my cat and shielded her immediately. The dog can attack me, that's fine. I'm protecting my cat.

if I'm out with my dog and I see another dog, smaller, bigger or the same size, another hiker, a biker, children, horses, literally ANYTHING, I'm pulling over to the side and allowing them to pass before continuing on. and my dog is very neutral and focused on me, she doesn't approach anything, but just for everyone's comfort, we're moving over. genuinely isn't hard especially if you have a dog who you KNOW is reactive.

While we here one time I was past a chihuahua owner who wouldn’t pick his dog up (my dog isn’t aggressive but he doesn’t understand boundaries so I don’t let him greet) and I had to pick up my 50lb dog to keep everyone safe

“My dog has behavior issues, it’s you- the strangers- fault!” If these people have dogs that will attack you to get to your small dog you’re holding they need more training!
