I remember in seventh grade we were in the auditorium, I think, and they were playing One Direction, and all the girls were screaming because this was like peak One Direction 2012/2013, and I remember screaming along too, being like, oh my God, Niall Meanwhile, I do find him cute, but I just couldn’t get into One Direction, nor do I care for them, and I also didn’t care for Justin Bieber as well.

getting into emo/alt culture in middle school was great for me bc i genuinely loved the music and it wasn’t mainstream but it was popular *enough* to find people who were excited to share those interests

IDK if there were any other kids like me who would just watch cartoons/anime and play those online computer games all day and collect toys because they had no social life. I know so many of those virtual worlds and some MMOs from the 2000s and 2010s because I was on the computer so much. I watched cartoons from CN, Nick, Disney, Discovery Family/Hub Network, 4Kids, and even PBS Kids when our cable service went out. If I was up too late, I would watch anime on Toonami with my dad (usually One Piece or Inuyasha or Samurai Jack) before going back to bed. Being chronically on YouTube is also how I discovered Happy Tree Friends (my first Build A Bear was named Cuddles, after the yellow bunny)
