Can you offer examples of when reactive abuse has been used as a “get out of jail free” card? Because until the last few years I hadn’t heard of reactive abuse, and I think back to Gabby Petito’s case of reactive abuse where no one intervened in her situation because they assumed she was the primary abuser.

I think as a society we have to be more okay with “waiting for more information” rather than jumping on each other when your immediate reactions don’t align with one another. Taylor may experience reactive abuse but right now, in this moment, there is not enough documented evidence to support this. So I think it’s okay to say “let’s gather more information before making a judgement”

So, in your opinion, none of the psychological things you mentioned as “Not, _____” are relevant in your view? As an attorney, very disappointing to see this take. The relationship (including each party’s action) is exactly what we must consider to assess reactive abuse. You are “applying the framework” in a way that completely excuses his actions. I do not condone Taylor’s actions, but describing this as “one direction” is overly simplistic and completely lacks nuance.
