What are your thoughts on aquatic cove biking. I go slowly through there but some people are weird about it. The alternative is either cut through Ghirardelli or up further on Van ness which is dangerous with buses so I’m torn

deeply prefer a rack and panniers to a backpack, personally.

No backpack will ever be as comfortable as panniers. That being said I switch between a Chrome roll up backpack and panniers depending on the day/bike. Chrome backpacks are the best

I use a deuter speed lite 20 that fits a laptop and lunch. It has a mesh helmet holder that clips on to carry your helmet when not riding, and I have their bright yellow rain cover that keeps it dry and makes me really visible.

the best backpack is a bike basket/rack/panier lol. just get it off your bike it's worth it.

I grabbed some 3D printed pannier clips off Etsy to turn my backpack into a pannier. I have that on one side and Specialized/Fjallraven coolcave on the other.

A front rack is great if your bike can support one, it makes the bike feel a lot less wobbly than a rear rack. You lose the ability to ride no handed though

Strongest recommendation is get a rack or basket, sorry to be annoying but not having stuff on your back is night and day for comfort IMO

Not a backpack, but look at deuter cabezon SB 16. Road bike friendly and so much more comfortable than a backpack
