To be fair, professors pushed back against this in 2020 (and earlier) because they knew universities would start selling their courses in their absence and eventually without paying their salaries, but no one cared, so we are where we are now. Generally, the professors are not choosing this format.

So don’t sign up for an asynchronous section. Unless you go to a tiny college, most classes have multiple sections of a class to choose from. People who choose the asynchronous class, choose it because they don’t want to attend classes

I’m a college student in my 30s with a full time job and other responsibilities. Online asynchronous is the only option that works for me. If it doesn’t work for you, don’t take it.

Wait until you find out lesson planning, making those videos, and grading takes a lot of labor. 🥴

Most colleges use the Carnegie Unit: 1 credit ≈ 3 hrs/week (1 in class, 2 outside). So a 3-credit class = ~6 hrs outside work. You’re expected to work outside class. Would you rather read 50 pages of a dense textbook or watch old lectures?

Then don't sign up for an asynchronous class...? I'm confused. Don't you pick your own classes in college?

Hey so as a professor we hate this as well. Schools push for async classes so they can pay us once and keep using the material.

Sounds like you are in a flipped class. If it were asynchronous, you would not be going to class. Asynchronous means you do not have any live classes and complete everything online. Flipped class means you have learning material to review at home, then you come to class to do work and to ask questions.

I prefer asynchronous learning. You’re paying for access to the professor and their knowledge and for their work building the course, not to be imprisoned in a class for an hour while other people distract you.

While I'm in cc, I'm not paying nearly this much but it's frustrating when I'm watching videos made in 2015 and paying for no feedback on essays and auto graded quizzes and tests

I prefer asynchronous learning which factored into my decision of a degree and university. I hear your point of view but you should have looked further into your university, alongside their cost, and their learning style.

Unfortunately you’re paying for the course either way so try to care enough to pass so you don’t have to pay for it again.

Here’s a different perspective – try to get as much possible information out of your professors as possible. I know you’re tired and busy and bored with it. I know it’s not interesting to you. But try to learn as much as you possibly can stand to learn while you were in college. There will be no other time in your life where it is your job to learn and you have the luxury of doing that. I know that sounds idyllic or unreasonable. But I look back on undergrad and grad school, and that was the last time that I ever really truly was able to fully enrich myself. It was only a few years later that I had children and from that on it was work and parent. So background full circle – if they’re not giving you enough, don’t reduce it even more down to just Quizlet. Don’t put the minimum effort in. Challenge your professors to do more and do better for you. Speaking as a former professor make them earn the money that you were paying them. They are they’re earning it in other ways if they’re not earning it in your class, they’re probably pretty overworked, but make them teach you more not less.
