When raised right, big dogs are great with kids. That goes for any dogs really. I have ten pound Chihuahua Maltese mix and she is just as protective of my grands as I am. If not more.

My kids grew up with two Pitbulls. Not a single problem. My kids were the only ones in the neighborhood who could take the dogs for a walk when it was dark. I was walking a few yards behind but most of the times it wasn't even necessary. They were the most loving and loyal dogs I've ever known.
