I was in a similar situation years ago. Police escorted me to the hospital allowed me to get my wife checked in then went back and accepted my ticket

My son stopped breathing at 9 mos old, I sped all the way to the ER. The officer came in and spoke to my brother as to why we were speeding. He told my bro to tell me to run Hazzard lights and stop at the red lights in future, wished us luck with my son and left. That's how a reasonable officer acts.
