@themedicarefamily: Medicare Irma is a CLIFF, meaning if you go over that bracket by only one dollar you’ll pay more for that bracket of income for one calendar year Medicare Irma looks back two years at your modified adjusted gross income. Medicare arm is recalculated annually. You might trigger it once or many times in your retirement years. If you’re getting ready to start Medicare our company The Medicare Family helps people for free and all 50 states.
This whole IRMAA thing is such a ripoff. The more you make the more your penalized, especially when you’ve paid the maximum in anyway.

It’s absurd that the cliff for single filers is 1/2 that of a couple. My new roof, driveway and AC system cost the same as theirs, but if I take $$$ from my IRA to fund those, I’d have to pay IRMAA premiums due to the withdrawal and the couple next door would not.

Someone told me that anything in your 401k or sticks the government does not look at that. Is this true or not? They told me that when you sign up they only check on your bank accounts.

I absolutely hate this, you do everything right, plan for your retirement, saved and now you have to pay a huge penalty because you have money!!! my 81yr old mom pays $750 a month in irma because her and my dad saved for retirement

Isn’t it silly that it triggers IRMA? Although it was tax deferred, we’ve already paid FICA taxes on it.
