Look, I like Big Arnold too. But unfortunately, he didn’t deserve the title in 1980. He was in the best condition of his life in 1975. In fact, out of all 7 of his Mr. “O” titles, his condition for the 1980 title was his worst. There were several others on that stage that were in by far better condition than Arnold. Yes, perhaps it could’ve gone to Mike Mentzer, or even Boyer Coe. Boyer looked his best too. And let’s not forget, Boyer is the first bodybuilder ever to score a perfect score (in one of the Grand Prix Championships). It’s sad how bodybuilding has changed over the years with the use of anabolic steroids and growth enhancement drugs. These drugs have allowed many to exceed their natural abilities, at the costs of shortening their own life literally. Overall, it’s not worth it. The politics of all the judgement calls and the negative long term effects of the enhancement drugs was enough to end my days of competing. I still train (naturally) for my own personal health.
