understanding this scene is not just about Judas’ betrayal, but knowing that Jesus saw past that because He saw Judas struggling with trusting Him/His plan. Judas knew Jesus called him as His disciple, but he got caught in the calling rather than in the one who called him.

Jesus was able to treat Judas with respect from the begging even tho He knew from the start that Judas would have betrayed him. That’s something not even one of us would do, we would never be kind with someone who we know for sure, would led us to our death… on the other hand I think of that scene in the chosen, where Jesus’s talking with Mary and as she says that the other ones are only human He says, “but I’m human too”. I think what He wanted to say is that we are more than capable of behaving the same way Jesus did, it’s just that we don’t ask Him in prayer, to help us be like him and we don’t even try to.

I think about it a lot that Jesus KNEW the entire time that Judas would betray Him... Yet still loved him, and even fed him, the night before He was betrayed.

Unpopular opinion, but as I grew closer to God and realized how good, merciful, and compassionate he is, and how sinful I am as a human, I looked at Judas with more compassion and empathy and felt bad for him. That could have easily been me in that position. Peter literally denied God three times when Jesus was being persecuted, even after being so intimately close with him every day. Could I have stayed loyal? I hope I would, but I could see myself folding too. 😔

I am Judas. Accepting that was the hardest part. I’m not perfect, and no matter how hard I try… I never will be. But I can learn to judge less and love more. Everyone deserves forgiveness. Jesus died to give even the worst people forgiveness.
