@floriangadsby: I’ve been really trying to make an effort to draw more recently, hence the sketches that are flooding my feed. You don’t always have the time to make pots but you certainly have the time to draw them and I’ve found it really helps to concrete my ideas of what I want to create in clay. It’s not about illustration perfect representations of the pieces I make, rather it’s to either solidify ideas or to see what they could look like if angles are changed, heights are altered, the positions of the spout and handle adjusted, and so on. It’s quicker, for me at least, to flood a page with rough inky lines, that spending much longer throwing, trimming and assembling teapots, only to end up with some forms I’m particularly happy with as they don’t fit within my ‘family’ of work, to sift out what doesn’t hold up. For most part, I use Pigma Micron pens for the line-work, by @Sakura of America Shop, the 0.05 mm for the messy sketch work, and then either a 0.5 or a 0.8 for the thicker strokes that help to define the shape and hide the scruffy scribbles. Lastly, I do some shading with either watercolours or with some light grey brush pens by @uni-ball UK.
