To put things into perspective for the commenters. This is not application of ‘shoes’, this is a performance horse. An athlete, part of the horse husbandry and care for this animal is to ensure he’s balanced and able to perform his job to the best of its ability. She’s paying not just for the ‘shoes’ but for the farrier’s experience, expertise and time. There is the direct cost of the farriers time, each shoe, each nail and ‘unseen’ costs of hiring a self employed professional. We need to accommodate travel expenses, upkeep on our vehicles, investment into tools, investment into OURSELVES our clients are paying our bills. You need to account to all these factors into how much you charge a client. $250 for a full set of shoes on a performance horse, assuming she’s in a major metropolitan area is pretty…typical. Lower than some! I know farriers in Ocala or at show jumping barns start start at $300…for a half set.
