@how2talktoyourdoctor: If you’re coming away, feeling unheard, frustrated or invalidated from your doctors appointments, here’s 5 simple and actionable tips to get you started… (and please add any more you’ve found effective in the comments for others to share.) Obviously, there’s only so much I can share in a three minute video, but there is a lot more information in the book about how to deal with medical gaslighting, medical misogyny and navigating diagnosis for rare and chronic diseases - if you have any experience of this then do drop a note in the comments… 1 PREPARE - Break the cycle of interruption, by preparing for your conversation as whom would for any other important meeting - use “My Headlines” to make sure all the information you give is valid and useful to your doctor. Remember the 4Cs - Be Clear, Concise, Coherent and add Context 2 EXPLAIN - see my earlier video about using a simple creative writing tool - the 5Ws to add nuance, detail and further actionable intel to your ‘pitch’ 3 BRING EVIDENCE - could be photos, a symptom diary, a resource from a credible medical / patient charity outlining latest research and guidance for doctors 4 BRING A WITNESS. - it shouldn’t be this way, but we work within the system we have, and bringing a male relative to your appointment has been shown to affect how much invalidation of symptoms occurs. 5 BE CLEAR ON HOW THIS IS AFFECTING YOUR LIFE - by showing how this is affecting your ability to work/ look after your children / have sex / drive / exercise - you are becoming more than a list of symptoms, you are then a person with responsibilities and commitments (oh and if you can bear to double down on how this is affecting the other people in your life, that can also be helpful) #medicalgaslighting #womenshealthmatters #medicaltiktok #chronicillnesswarrior #raredisease Keywords Endometriosis Adenomyosis POTS | EDS | MCAS Long Covid Chronic Fatigue Women’s health matters Autoimmune Rare conditions Medical misogyny

The simplest/easiest appointment I've ever had were ones I had pictures of swelling, over multiple days or when I printed the list of symptoms from the nhs website of a chronic illness I thought I had and ticked all the ones I was experiencing and just handed that to the Dr.

It's REALLY sad that we live in a world where we have to convince a Dr we aren't well now. I wish it was the 90's again 😞
