If your new normal means he doesn’t come to the family home for a while and you guys focus on having positive times at his house or on a trip out, then that’s ok. Home is about family not the bricks and mortar ❤️

maybe he'd rather be in HIS own home. Remember, that hasn't been his home since the age of 10. Also he could be picking up on your stress levels too. Its been a rocky few days.

You have to do what’s best for him and you. It sounds like transitions are getting harder for him. Maybe time to visit him at his home. So sorry. It’s no one’s fault and very heartbreaking to all involved. We all

As a social care worker working on this field for many years! Firstly it broke me reading these comments from people blaming or harsh words 🥺 these words come from people who never had to live a day in your brothers lofe.

A headache? A UTI? Season change? The answers could be endless. You’re doing your best. And that’s all he can ask for

As a special needs mom first off these comments break my heart… how cruel can people be??? But it’s a possibility that something is hurting him? Tooth ache or something else? You guys are doing the best you can.

I work in complex care and there comes a point where the individuals we support no longer think of "home" as home, more as "mum and dads". He's growing up and it might be that he's reached that point now. you haven't done anything wrong but it might be time to sit with his care team and discuss trips to visit him in his house now instead. You are so dedicated 💛 you are all amazing 👏

Your home may not be his happiest place, but his home may be. Maybe he’s grown into loving a place he now calls home? I hope he can learn to settle into both but maybe it’s not too bad knowing his most safe space is somewhere he is most of the time?

Do you think he’s regressed because he comes home? I find with a few of my residents that going home can be a happy time but also a confusing time. We often will drop off and pick up to help them understand the concept and the change of environment. I do hope it’s just a blip! Sending lots of love to you guys☺️

I often find that my son who is similar to Ewan has these periods when somethings painful despite his pain threshold being high , like Ewan’s. I sometimes trial pan relief to see if that helps. But I have also found that certain routines my sons always done , which I thought were his safe cycles, he tries to break them to out in a new cycle, be it a different bathroom or a new activity which again, is so difficult to introduce. My son stopped going out to his favourite takeaway drive thru , and if we now bring it in the house (McDonald’s) gets upset and has a meltdown , almost as if he doesn’t want to return to that period in his life. Could a change in his routine help , but again, it’s an absolute minefield to navigate how you do that. In the past , we’ve done the car drive , then done a car wash randomly but that has led him to stop the car drives for the fear. Stick with your routine , only you will know how you could possibly tweak it without upsetting Ewan. Maybe visit him in his home as you do and incorporate a new routine there.

I know your love is unconditional, however, would it ever get to the point where you and your parents decide not to have him in the house, strictly from a safety perspective?

I love that you voice your frustration with your brother and mention tension with your parents. These are honest reflections on your relationship with your brother. As someone with an a severely autistic sister, it has created lots of tension and heart break within those in our family who contribute to her care. I think speaking on this, examining your relationship with your brother and your parents, would be unique in the space and would be fantastic.

My son hasn't want to come to our home in years. He'd rather be in his new home. It's a huge part of his routine. We are lucky to have great staff that care for him. I fully understand. It's hard
