@bdccarpenter: Our first daughter is due in just a couple of weeks. ❤️ Do any of you have any amazing parenting tips? Things we might not have thought about? #parent #parents #parenthood #parenting #parenting101
They're not giving you a hard time. They're having a hard time.

Avoid bright lights.
Never let them get wet.
Don't feed them after... No, wait, that's Gremlins.
For humans it's basically feed ,clean snuggle, repeat. The lack of sleep is totally worth it. 😊

The mom should really silence all the exterior voices and listen to her instinct. She’s been growing your baby cell by cell, she DOES know what she’s doing. 🥰

Millis :
Avoid feeding your child with utensils that have been in your own mouth or kissing them on the lips, as this can transfer cavity-causing caries bacteria and increase the risk of tooth decay. Anything that has touched the inside of your mouth or has your saliva on it should stay away from your baby’s mouth.

no matter how healed your childhood traumas are, they will be ripped open when your baby is born. Give yourself grace as you re-parent your inner child while simultaneously learning to parent your little one. PPD is tricky, not really predictable and looks/feels different for everyone. Asking for help or trying/needing meds doesn't mean you're not good enough, it means you're strong enough to use the tools available to you to show up as your best self. ❤️❤️❤️there's no one way to be a good parent, and your little one chose you so trust that yoir hearts know best ❤️

Rule nr 1. Be kind to yourselves. Despite advices, there is no right or wrong really. Just love unconditionally. /from an orphan. ❤️Enjoy your bundle, times flies.

You can’t spoil a baby. Crying is their only form of communication. For the first three months, they wish they were still in your belly so hold them a lot. Bounce them on a yoga ball when they won’t sleep. Feed them when they are hungry- it takes a while before they get on a schedule so don’t force it. Get a baby bjorn bouncy chair if you can afford one. They are a life saver. So are halo co sleepers and baby brezaa for formula fed babies. Get a nose Frida and gripe water. Corn starch works on diaper rash. But also just extra strength desitin. And Burt’s bees baby lotion smells really good. And ignore the haters. For some reason there is just a ton of judgment during this phase. A lot from other moms sadly. Anyway congrats ❤️❤️❤️

It’s ok to not love every single stage. The newborn phase can be ROUGH. If you are afraid of losing it because you can’t get the baby to fall back asleep or can’t get them to stop crying, put the baby in a safe place and take care of yourself. Neither of these things make you a bad parent or partner.

Look into Wonder Weeks- it explains mental “leaps” where babies are developing mentally and physically. They might be more cranky during those phases and it made me feel like I wasn’t doing anything wrong, it was just developmentally normal.

Post partum is real, and serious. Also, Sohee should focus on herself and baby. The housework and visiting can wait. Let her rest, heal and enjoy. You guys will do great! 🥰🥰

As a former nanny, read up on gentle parenting and emotional regulation. Gentle parenting(not permissive parenting!) has been proven to have the best outcomes for the psychological health for children. Have meals prepped in the fridge and the freezer for the first few weeks, if you can afford it, get a cleaning person and if possible, do night responsibilities alternating between the two of you, sleep is so important!

As a first time mum myself all I can say is trust your gut and don’t let people pressure you into things you don’t like, enjoy every moment as they are beautiful ☺️

Share the nights. The feedings, the rocking to sleep, the diaper changes. Find a way to share it. You'll never regret that investment.

I do hope that, when the wee one is born, Sohee feels that instant, fierce rush of love that a lot of women talk about. She should know, however, that if that’s not the case (as it is for SO SO many of us) it is perfectly normal, as falling in love is often a more gradual affair for some of us 🥰 (This goes for you too Ben 😊)

Remember that all babies are different and so much just requires you to take things in stride. Temperament dictates so much (including how much baby sleeps!) so take advice with a grain of salt - what works for one baby won’t work for another. Don’t hold yourselves to perfection: if your baby is safe and loved you’re doing great, so avoid the pressure of perfect. Find a way for both of you to get sleep, especially in those early weeks. Take care of each other ❤️

You don’t need our tips. You will love that baby so much. I guess my tip is to continue to love each other, too. It’s easy to get caught up in baby, but this is your moment as a couple, too. Take care of mama. She needs you to be her rock. She will go through so much in the next month

Babies dont keep. Having all the dishes done, a perfect house, everything immaculate and neat is for when they are older. There will be other games on the TV, rounds of video games and blah blah blah but babies are only little for the blink of an eye then its gone. Teach her about the magic in the world and the fire in her veins.

Whoever spends the most time with the bay dictates routine and the standard to which care is done. Do not deviate from it. It will save the primary caregiver so much heartache and frustration.

You're going to receive a influx of advice, all coming from a mostly good place: my advice; ignore every single bit of advice. In reality, the first few weeks are hard - for everyone. You need, together with your little girl, find a routine and discover each other's language. What I will say is this; enjoy your time together. Nap together with your little one. If your wife will breastfeed; tell her to take her time, there is no rush. Tell her to have a drink nearby - she might get thirsty herself. Trust your instincts, truly. Don't underestimate or ignore your gut feeling. But more importantly, support your wife. You'll both be tired, obviously. But she was the champion that put a kiddo into this world. Pamper her however she needs to be pampered, and that can be as simple as letting her sleep when she's tired.

I know you will, but still, am gonna say it. help her. cherish her the way she is, moods and all. your wife will go through an immense roller-coaster of emotions and she'll need you. for little baby, don't worry, everything will be okay, once you two work together and love it unconditionally ❤️
