First cousins share a set of grandparents, second cousins share a set of great grandparents, so on and so forth. Removed means exactly what you described. How many generations away they are. These terms aren’t really all that important though unless you’re talking genealogy and drawing out your family tree.

By the time I was born all my cousins were in high school or in their 20’s cos my mom was a late in life oops baby (my mom became an aunt when she was 6) so my cousins were the children of my cousins 😂

My mom's side of the family is such a hot mess that I also believed there was family drama in the removed as that was "normal" to me. My paternal aunt had to explain it to me, in college, when I mentioned that's what I thought.

I finally figured it out this year. We just always went 1st and 2nd if at all. I do in fact know my cousins who we share a great great great grandpa.

Once removed just means it’s your cousins child. The amount of times removed is the amount of generations between you

Yeah it gets WAY to complicated way to quick my first cousins kids are my age so my first cousins once removed (always thought they were my second cousins till this video) kids are my daughters age but like what cousins are they no idea

So let’s say my grandma A has a sister, My great aunt B. My grandma A has 2 kids, C and D. My great Aunt B has 2 kids, E and F. Those sets of kids are 1st cousins to C&D. C later has a kid, G. And D has 2, H and I. G and H&I are 1st cousins. But 1st cousin once removed to E&F. E also has 2 kids, J and K. F has 2, L and M. They are 1st cousins to each other, but 2nd cousins to G, H and I. G, H and I share GREAT grandparents to J,K,L, and M. But G, H and I’s grandma (Grandma A) is J,k, L, and M’s great Aunt A. And their Grandma B, is my great aunt B.
