thread tape can play hell on hydraulic systems if any bits of the tape ever end up in the fluid. you should try Loctite 545, it's specifically designed for sealing threads on hydraulic/pneumatic systems. I've used it on all sorts of things since I discovered it and have had great luck with it.

The last peace is made for a cable to tie to that runs to the bed that pulls when it hits the raise limit to pull on that valve that pulls it to the neutral position on the pump

It's already been said, but no tape or dope on hydraulic systems. You want Loctite 545.

you should look at getting a vise that you can mount to the reciever on your truck. feel like that would have been perfect for getting those fittings apart.

the cable is for the stop, you set that when the bed is at max hight, and it'll pull the lever out of raise position. make sure you set that up or you'll dead head the pump

As a plumber that uses a lot of stainless, get the tape made for stainless threads. Usually silver. I have had many leaks.

In the future use thread dope only, I’ve had small pieces of thread tape get caught in valves before and cause issues

For some reason it’s refreshing to watch you sit there and size up the old pump, like a little reminder that your human doing it at human pace like the rest of us

Just an FYI. using Teflon tape on hydraulics is not recommended. If the Teflon gets into the system it can damage the pump.

If you ever need any help, send me a message. I installed wet kits, rebuilt PTO's and pumps, and redid hydraulic systems for 5 years.
