@legendary.roads: Looking for hidden places in Rome? This is one of the most unexpected ones. The beautiful Villa Torlonia may look like a peaceful park, but it hides a darker and fascinating history. For years, this villa was the private residence of Benito Mussolini, who lived here paying the equivalent of almost nothing. Beneath the gardens, a secret bunker was built to protect him during World War II, turning this elegant estate into a place full of contrasts between beauty and power. Today, it’s one of the most unique and underrated places to visit in Rome, far from the usual tourist crowds. If you’re planning a trip to Rome and want to discover something different, this is definitely worth a visit. 📍Villa Torlonia, Rome #hiddenrome #thingstodoinrome #rometravel #romeitaly #discoverrome

TerraMineWorld :
During the Second World War, in line with the policy of autarky, Mussolini had the villa's gardens transformed into 'war gardens' (victory gardens), where wheat and potatoes were grown. This was a symbolic gesture to show that even the residence of the head of government contributed to the nation's sustenance during the conflict
