Loud it 📢📢📢 I couldn’t be bothered to go there as people would call me old and bitter. That report includes Rock! Which is originally from Black music but come the fuck on. What are they going to do now? Is all I care about and the answer is probably…nothing. Maybe they will sponsor more white artists in Black genres.

It’s the tension of Black music being very lucrative whilst it’s being appropriated and colonised by others who reap the most financial gains from it.

Peter Andre being an Aussie of Greek descent using black music to become famous. Want the fun and money but not the pain that black people face.

Yeah, a lot of the uk music is influenced by Black music whoever makes it, and from original Ska fusions, jungle dubstep etc, there’s a lot of Carribean-British music where the bands and DJs are a mix, which in ska is an intentional thing, but it’s easy to be in a jungle event in Bristol with zero Black artists despite a big Carribean community. Ofc some of it is because white people often stick with one subculture and genre of music multigenerational, so a lot of people my age spent the 2000s-2010s with old men in punk/skin/antifascist spaces at a time when most young Black people were doing grime. It’s one thing when the adaption is intentional and a solidarity thing. But quite another when say, an artist like Ren (no particular offence to him) will be the only rap artist a lot of people like, and they scramble to call the music “bard-core” or anything (when this kind of festival music that mixes British folk with ska and other more modern influences is not particularly new) but people ignore that some parts are obviously reggae or drill regardless of him doing covers of that on the sea front.
