I think it’s almost the primal instinct of society, that’s how humans thrived, living together, doing things together. Or it could just be people don’t want to see others as self-centred because most people are inherently selfish, so when they see someone being selfish it doesn’t match what they want to believe.

I think for the same reasons that society punishes self expression, people have grown resentful of those who take care of themselves “too much”, because we assumed neglecting ourselves was the ultimate gesture of modesty.

It does occur to me as well, like i just think anyone would eventually need attention at a certain point in his life, only there is people who supress it and pretend that they don’t need it and find other ways to fulfill this need or some people who just get straight to it (or are careless to whatever people say) but when it becomes something you can’t finish your day without then tbh idk what to say about that 😅

UR BACCKK! Oki so.. 😭 "Attention seeking" is typically considered bad because it gives the impression that the "attention seeker" has a need for the validation of others and typically, those who DON'T need that validation i.e are confident enough in themselves to know "I'm good at ___" or "I have x talent" , those ppl are more respected because they have a high self esteem. so.. low self esteem= weakness= they get made fun of. if that makes sense? THIS IS JUST MY OPINION AND OFC THERE'S NUANCES BUT YEA! and I think the.. self centred ppl are usually shunned because the majority of ppl are inherently selfish. so when a self centred person prioritises themselves. society sees "i can't get what I want out of this person cuz they care about themselves more" so they label it as ego to force them to change. hence they make being "self centred" bad even tho it's perfectly fine. healthy even. BUT AGAIN. AS YOU SAID. NUANCES ✨ this isn't black and white but eh hopefully my babbling made some semblance of sense lol.
