The memory erasure clause is something the community repeatedly points to as one of the most quietly sinister contractual details in the entire Project Moon universe. L Corp was erasing the memories of the only outside witnesses to what was happening inside the facility after every single visit. Not because the Rabbits were becoming dangerous or unstable, but as a standard contractual term. Myo and her team walked in, suppressed things that should not exist, watched coworkers die in ways that defy physics and sanity, and then had all of it professionally removed before they left. The Rabbit Team that shows up in Library of Ruina is, in a very real sense, encountering the Library for the first time — but their bodies have been there before, dozens of times, and remember nothing. The T Corp researchers explain that per A Corp's rules, multiple of the same person can only exist for seven days before R Corp would be shut down by B Corp. Therefore, the Hatcheries use T Corp's Singularity to allow for more combat time between the clones. Because of L Corp's sudden shutdown, Nikolai has to use the Hatcheries far less often. The researchers then say that because of the energy situation, the current dispatch would be the last time the Fourth Pack can hatch — if they die this time, they cannot come back. This is the moment the Library of Ruina R Corp reception hits hardest. The Fourth Pack that enters the Library for the second time knows, going in, that there is no resurrection waiting for them if they fail. The entire business model of R Corp — the thing that made their soldiers functionally fearless, the thing that made them valuable enough for A Corp to grant them a special exemption from the no-cloning rule — collapsed the moment L Corp collapsed. Without Enkephalin, there is no Hatchery. Without the Hatchery, R Corp's soldiers are just people who die and stay dead like everyone else in the City. The fall of L Corp didn't just affect Ayin's plan and Angela's library. It structurally unmade the only Wing whose entire identity was built on being immune to permanent death. The Dead Rabbits were a vigilante Syndicate that once took in Heathcliff during his time in District 20 after he left Wuthering Heights. They were known for actually protecting those they extorted protection money from, with their distinctive sign being scarves wrapped around their arms to resemble rabbit ears. Their boss Matthew personally handled time taxes for his underlings. Sometime after Heathcliff left, the original Dead Rabbits were completely wiped out. Years later, the Dead Rabbits were reborn with the support of The Ring and rose to an Urban Plague classification — members of this revived Syndicate were not willing participants but were Identities created and forced to wear red rabbit hoods stitched together with brown dirtied clothes. The transformation from the original Dead Rabbits to the new ones is one of the sharpest contrasts in Canto VI. What Heathcliff remembers as a genuine community — a group of people who looked out for the Backstreets, who went to the pub together, who named a beer after him — was resurrected as a mass-produced horror using The Ring's Mirror technology.
