@rocketspeechtherapy: Silly games like this one help to encourage words… and giggles! #speechtherapytips #latetalker #babywords #toddlermama #firstwords
My son is over 2 (birthday was in January) but refuses to speak! He’s slowly getting better, but ultimately his speech is way behind. He can hear fine, and developmentally he’s where he should be in all other aspects. It’s just speech we’re struggling with. If I introduce a sign he’ll pick it up same day, but words? Nadda! He says maybe 50 words? And that’s if I’m counting words he’s said once months ago and literally never again. If we sing row row row your boat and end it with “if you see a crocodile don’t forget to scream! Ah!” He’ll put his hands up to his face and pretend to scream but nothing comes out. He also has a very defiant personality (I mean this in a good way!) and he thinks it’s very funny to not do what you want him to, everything is a game to him so the second he catches onto a game like this it’s OVER for me. Any advice? 😅

My boy will be 3 this November and he refuses to speak other than mama, dada, papa, he mumbles and likes to yell when he’s excited but when I sit him down he will not focus or listen to me. When I try to read to him he won’t stay still or listen and he will wanna take the book and just flip through them.

I also found that focusing on one word a week for up to 3 weeks until its mastered really helps. I know that sounds crazy but too many words can sometimes be overwhelming for them.

This works too with the “ this is big big big, this is small small small” rhyme I’ve seen on here. My toddler will fill in words if I pause for whatever’s coming next!
