get an American Express credit card before you leave the USA then transfer it to a British one when you get over here, credit score transfers and you can build it using the Amex

You also have to file a FBAR if you have $10k in an international bank account. They tax you on this! Just found this out a couple days ago. Lol

yiu dont need a UK bank account at first. Use Wise. it can act as an ACH. Great exchange rates. I use it to pay rent.

I’m currently doing all of the research now to move over in the next few years. I’m already overwhelmed and afraid I won’t be able to do it or afford it all 🥹 I have a great job in healthcare and I’ll only be bringing my son but there are so many things to do.

I came here at Brexit implementation and banks were basically refusing to issue me an account with my visa. I could only do starling at the time. Highly recommend having chase because they have us and uk branches

Oh man, mine was that not every bus stops at the bus stop even if someone is standing right there. You have to actually hold your hand out to flag the driver that you want to get on that bus. And… the same goes for getting off. You have to press the “stop” button. I stupidly thought the driver stops at EVERY stop and that most certainly doesn’t happen 😂😂😂 and they don’t give any instructions when you’re at the bus stop on how to do any of this so it’s just a guess! 😂

Amen, even the student visa team (at least for me okay Heriot Watt), didn’t tell me all this. Tbf my credit due to student loans was almost at zero anyways 😅😅😅! I was told there’s a trick to use a GP for an address and stuff first? I can’t find the TikTok tho. But these are so helpful

Honestly after dealing with US immigration, UK was 10x easier. Also get a job to sponsor and pay for your visa, you don’t pay a dime on that

This is pretty much a universal experience for anyone wanting to settle in another country. Try navigating the US tax and healthcare systems as a non-US citizen! Nobody’s willing to give you any real advice unless you pay for an expert.
