Check your vehicle roof capacity before buying a roof tent. Most SUV’s should have Dynamic Load (Moving) of 200 lbs on the roof. Static Load (parked) is higher, but check the specs for your vehicle. Add the weight of the total tent assembly, bending, people, animals, etc you plan to have up there. You should also consider Safety Factors other items you might bring up as well as for heavy rain, and wind. Overloading the roof of your vehicle could weaken the structural integrity of the roof. Also, keep in mind that most cars and small SUV have a low total carrying capacity that should not be exceeded.

Depends on where u planning to sleep mostly. The first option is more versatile, since you can stealth camping anywhere. Rooftop is nice, but cant pop that out everywhere.
