You can’t convert and compare US and UK salaries. Yes in the UK the tax is higher, but in the US you are ‘taxed’ in different ways that affect your take home. US medical insurance is ridiculous, so are US college fees and things like property tax and state/city tax do not exist in the UK. So you are paying much more in the US.

I am 40 years old now. I joined British Army when I was 20 years old with salary likely something 20/25K I guess. My rank is CSgt now and making roughly 50K a year. 20 years gone, I own 2 houses in South near London. Some Golds/silver, lots of S&P500 stocks and some cash in ISAs. My all combined networth is around 700K today. If 🇬🇧 UK is that much shit then how come I am almost becoming a millionaire in next 2/3 years by doing low salary job. I am only 40 now. Imagine my wealth compounding for next 25 years…it all depends on individual I guess 🤔

£50-70k in London is considered good and u can barely live off it. Outside of London the salaries are even worse. Not much to strive towards because everything is so expensive

You can get promoted, get pay rises and move up to any ladder of success pretty quickly in the UK. It’s easy to earn 70K-100K if you are committed to working hard in London. Also you can go from job to job if you are qualified and have great skills. It’s just that we don’t want to work too hard because of stress. We want more of the work life balance.

even UK lawyers aren’t making that much. apparently an 80k salary is considered really good. whereas in the US an 80k salary is considered more of a starting salary, and eventually lawyers go on to make well into 6 figures

Google says the average in the USA is top $69k, average health insurance is $9k, so $60k. Your cost of living is generally more expensive so you're likely looking at around the same. Also take away holidays, sick pay, etc. On average you're likely slightly better off in the UK

Just one point: it sounds like you are another one who misunderstands how income tax works. We don't simply get taxed more if we earn more. In England any earnings between 12.5 and 50k are taxed at 20%. Between 50k and 125k it is 40%. That does NOT mean that if you earn 60k you pay 40% of 60k. You pay 20% of 50k plus 40% of 10k. It is always better to earn more here, just like anywhere else.
