We coexist. Teens are also children and have few third spaces, and the playground is one of them.

As a middle school teacher… 1. Ask them nicely to stop. 2. Call the police.

A parent voice saying “hey- these kids aren’t as mature as you, can you change the music?” For sharing- “hi, can you move to one side so little ones can go down the slide?” Our park teens respond well to clear instructions when you speak with kindness/calmness.

Honestly I’ve found that most teenagers are really respectful when I’m with my kids. They’re usually really nice to my kids. And, Sometimes it’s just best to accept they were there first

Just ask them respectfully to be considerate. They’re just big kids.

I have definitely told teens to watch their language when my small kids are around. And I would definitely say something to them about their music. I understand it's a public space but they also need to have respect and awareness for who is around them.

I personally start busting a move and then I see if I can connect to their stereo via Bluetooth (you usually can) and start playing my favorite music.

Did you try to just ask them to play something else? “Hey! do you mind playing something a little more kid friendly while we’re here?”

If they’re on the structure and not playing, I’d tell them to move. You can sit and stand in the grass. You can only go down a slide..on the slide.

We have to remember that they are kids too. They’re now old enough to go do stuff without parents, and a little guidance from adults doesn’t hurt. I would try just explaining yourself and requesting they play something more appropriate for the space they’re in

I’m all for teens being able to enjoy park, I’m not for teens behaving like that😅 I ask them to leave, or I if the situation warrants it will call non emergency. As a teen my friends and I sued to love to hang out at parks, normally we stuck to the grassy areas or the swings

I think asking nicely “hey guys do you mind finding a different song while little ones are playing” i think most of the time they will respond nicely.

They have just as much of a right to be there as you do. Have you tried asking them nicely to change the music or turn it off? That’s the protocol.

I have encountered this and first remind myself that teens are still kids too and it’s better for them to hang out here than somewhere unsafe! And then I tell them “hey there’s younger kids around and that music isn’t appropriate for a public place you can change it or use headphones”. Also talk loudly to my kid that he is allowed on whatever play area they camp out out and that the playground is for sharing and I’ll stay close to him and usually they move without me having to say soemthing directly - it’s more they are just hanging than actively blocking kids from the slide too so they will usually move if they see a kid coming up to them

Talk to them! I have told teens to knock off the excessive swearing at the playground or something similar and they usually apologize and stop or move elsewhere

I tell my teen to be mindful around the littles- it’s their 3rd space before it’s yours. Watch your play, mind your language and be rule role models. I was sensitive when mine was little but the big kids are harmless, I would gently correct them if they are truly out of line, but usually they left if you gave them dirty looks long enough.
