@sacramentourbanmedia916: A Tennessee mother was injured after trying to recover her daughter’s stolen car when she unexpectedly came across it in a shopping center parking lot, according to police. Authorities say 23-year-old Marquis Byers has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with the shooting. Jail records show he is being held at the Shelby County Jail on a $125,000 bond. The incident happened Wednesday near the Charlestowne Shops along Mount Moriah Road Extension in Memphis. Police say the woman was driving in the area when she spotted her daughter’s stolen 2011 Hyundai Sonata parked in the lot. According to investigators, she positioned her own vehicle to block the car from being driven away, then got inside the Sonata. As she leaned down to pop the hood, gunfire rang out. She was struck multiple times in both legs. The woman later told police she looked up and saw two men getting into a black BMW before they fled. She called 911, and responding officers applied tourniquets to control the bleeding before she was taken to a hospital. Officials said her injuries were not life-threatening. Surveillance footage reviewed by police allegedly shows a man dressed in black — identified by authorities as Byers — exiting the BMW, walking up to the driver’s side of the Sonata, and firing several shots. Investigators say a woman then got out of the BMW and confronted the shooter, while another man picked up the gun after it was dropped. The group then left the scene, though the woman reportedly remained behind to assist the victim. Police later connected the BMW to Byers and two other individuals, who have not been charged as of now. Byers has since been arrested and appeared in court, though his next hearing date has not yet been announced.#fyp #viral
