@sbiery: I’m still living with my… (what are they called when you’re still married but actively pursuing divorce?)… and seeing him carry on with life as usual and wondering when he doesn’t come home if he’s with her. I’ve been putting a lot of pressure on myself to hurry up and heal. I heard on a podcast that you can’t heal while you’re going through a divorce and I appreciated that. It’s a game of survival and I need to slow down and sit with where I am at. I don’t need to have it all figured out. There are moments when I’m curled on the floor crying and there are times I’m laughing and things feel normal. I need to be ok with whatever I’m going through in the moment. #betrayal #divorce #cheating
Sara I’m glad you’re able to vent out all these horrible feelings. It’s hard but I want you to know that things do get better. You seem like a wonderful woman and I’m sorry you’re struggling.

Oprah once had a therapist on her show that said it takes half the length of the relationship to heal. When I got divorced after a 20 year relationship, I remember that and it was such a daunting thought. I mean, 10 years? Really?! But, it took about eight and that was with intense, weekly therapy. It’s a lot. Now, I may have delayed that because the first 1-2 years I refused to admit that I was not ok. Then, I burned my life to the ground around year 3. And it was in the rebuilding that the healing started and progressed. I’m still not “healed” but I am remarried to a great man who heals me every day by doing and being who he is and ya know, idk if I’ll ever be all the way healed. It was a lot. Just this morning, a friend called to tell me about her sister getting a divorce due to cheating and within 30 minutes the flashback feelings were real. I was right back in 2015 feeling all those feelings. It surprised me but also not really. Anyway, you can go on with your life while you’re healing.

Take your time but do healthy things. The habits will be the basis for the work you will do later and it’s a great distraction to all the things you will be seeing as you all go on with your lives.

I think you have to grieve before you can heal....there is no timeline for grieving ...take whatever time you need, and do what makes you happy, not what other people say you should do....

You are grieving everything you’ve known for the past 20 years. It’s okay to not be okay some days.

You can not heal in the same environment that broke you. That is so true. You are not okay. You are not going to be okay for a long while & that's okay. Healing will begin once the divorce is over & you settle into your new normal. You will never be able to heal the damage, but you can learn from it & overcome it. There will come a time when it no longer hurts, but there is no way around the lesson. There is life after betrayal. What that will look like depends on how you handle the shock. Focus on what matters which is you, your children, & your future. Prepare for the fight of your life because that is, in fact, what this is

Take all the time you need to grieve, your probably thinking if only and I could’ve should’ve would’ve then things might’ve been different. There’s nothing you could’ve done he knew what he was doing and did it anyway. take it one day at a time make it about you. You’re all that matters now you will come out of it in your time. He will continue to be the same person (unfaithful) only with someone else. You deserve better 💐

You are going through, or will go though, a period of time called “liminal space.” It’s not an easy space to navigate because your old chapter hasn’t ended and you’re new chapter hasn’t begun. But it is an amazing opportunity of growth, albeit sometimes painful. Wishing you the best.

Everyone heals differently. Don’t rush it. Take your time. You need to heal before you put yourself back out there and that will be a while before you are whole again.
