Wow! This is so interesting! I’m so particular about my coffee cups-as I sit here with my first cup of coffee I realized my two favorite coffee mugs are the heavy ones. I won’t use the other ones. So cool!

What do you mean it stops working once you notice? I don’t start thinking about it as higher quality until after I notice the weight difference. Low quality objects are usually manufactured with cheap flimsy materials, whereas high quality objects tend to be built with thick sturdy materials. A solid wood dresser is going to last a lot longer than the particle board from ikea.

That's strange because that's not true for me if we're talking about glasses. I like the glass like coffee mugs so I can watch the cream go through my coffee. it's really about the visuals more. I don't necessarily think heavier weight things better. it depends on what the use is

I think given how particle board has become so normalized and nice heavy wood isn't affordable or practical for most people when we moved more towards renting and having to move more frequently probably also subconsciously plays a role in this. Things don't last the way they used to (planned obsolescence or however it's spelled) and things have become lighter and more portable as a result of being made more cheaply.

The weight of an object does change its value. In my thinking it's directly related to the object's purpose. I want my coffee mug heavy to keep my coffee warmer longer, I want my bag lighter and machine washable to make it more practical for me to use.
