This reminds me of something that happened to me in HS. I’m trans. So, I was still presenting male. Make friend asked if I wanted to go with him to a girl’s house. We get there and there were two girls there. He went back to another room with one girl, leaving me with the other one. We sat in awkward silence almost the entire time. Eventually, I saw a dictionary on the shelf. I spent the rest of the time there reading the dictionary. It wasn’t until many years later that I realized he was probably at least making out with her in that back room. We never talked about it.
