Also noticed a lot of those cozy streets are walkable and not for cars.

They cut down the trees on my street and I’m devastated. No shade, overexposed, and suddenly in a wind tunnel.

Interestingly, the enclosure ratio you mentioned regarding driving has an impact on people’s perceived driving speed. It’s actually quite more often than you think that we judge how fast we’re going based on how fast we feel the car is travelling as opposed to looking at the speedometer. A big thing that affects this is how close the surrounding environment is to us. Going 100kph down a tiny suburban street feels insanely fast, but doing that same speed on a wide rural road feels slow. This is why you tend to see a lot more speeders on poorly designed highways, because the environment itself isn’t being worked to make people feel like they’re driving too fast.

most of the cosy streets are more than 200 years old and were designed for horses and pedestrians and mostly in Europe while the exposed streets are more in America
