You could have balanced a piece of wood in the middle to rest it on top, put in some nails on each corner then slide the wood out. ☺️

They haven’t sent you the new system, the new style comes with the back piece already installed and you simply pull it out as if your opening a book, this could be for the smaller width ones but makes installing much easier!

You can get spare parts from Ikea. If you still got your receipt you can order a section or piece of the one you need. I used a wrong screw and damaged the top of a computer desk. Spoke to Ikea and they provided just the top of it. I got mine for free but the sales person said sometimes there is a cost.

Sounds like this is a usual occurrence with Ikea wardrobe backs. You did well on your own, definitely a pain to attach. Had the same issues, luckily my son was able to help me. 😬🤦🏽♀️Attaching the back panel to an IKEA wardrobe (particularly the PAX system) is widely considered the most challenging, frustrating, and critical part of assembly. The thin, flimsily-supported hardboard is designed to provide stability once fully attached, but it is notorious for bowing, splitting, or popping out during installation.
