@shadows_of_past: Two distinct human populations once shared the same landscapes of Eurasia. Homo sapiens and Neanderthals overlapped in time for several thousand years, particularly between roughly 50,000 and 40,000 years ago, before Neanderthals disappear from the fossil record. Neanderthals were a highly adapted human population, with robust skeletal structure, shorter limbs often associated with cold-climate adaptation, and a long, low cranial vault with pronounced brow ridges. Archaeological evidence shows they produced sophisticated stone tools (commonly associated with the Middle Paleolithic), controlled fire, and manufactured birch tar—an adhesive requiring complex processing. Homo sapiens, emerging earlier in Africa and expanding into Eurasia, are generally characterized by a more gracile skeleton, a globular cranial shape, and the presence of a chin. In many regions, Upper Paleolithic industries associated with Homo sapiens show greater diversity in tool forms, increased standardization, and the use of long-range projectile technology. Both populations show evidence of symbolic behavior. Neanderthals are associated with the use of pigments and objects interpreted as ornaments, while Homo sapiens left a broader archaeological record of personal ornaments, engravings, and, in many areas, cave art. Genetic evidence confirms that these populations interacted. Modern non-African humans typically carry approximately 1–2% Neanderthal DNA, indicating episodes of interbreeding. The disappearance of Neanderthals is not attributed to a single cause. Current research explores multiple contributing factors, including population size and structure, environmental change, technological differences, and patterns of interaction between groups. This documentary examines the evidence behind one of the central questions in human evolution: Why did Homo sapiens spread across the globe, while Neanderthals disappeared from the archaeological record? #ancientorigins #ancientdna #neanderthal #homosapiens #historytok

Wow, homo sapiens actually shown as African not European. Accurate since European phenotype is only 20,000yrs old whereas homo sapiens are 200,000yrs old and from Africa with African phenotype.
