@calmmoneycoach: 84,000 jobs lost last month. 6.7% unemployment. 14% youth unemployment. Your feed is screaming that the sky is falling. But there are still 495,000 jobs sitting vacant right now (StatCan, Q4 2025). Healthcare, skilled trades, and cybersecurity are literally begging for workers. And that AI layoff wave? Only 4.5% of 2025 job cuts were actually caused by AI (Challenger, Gray & Christmas). The rest is restructuring and cost cutting with a better press release. Canada’s fertility rate just hit 1.25. Replacement is 2.1. Every boomer retires by 2030. The demand for workers in these sectors isn’t a cycle. It’s a demographic certainty. The labour market is restructuring, not collapsing. Investing in yourself is never the wrong move. Sources in the video. Save this one. . . . #canadajobs #jobmarket #canada #PersonalFinance #skilledtrades

as a young person in the trades, those numbers come after the 4 year apprenticeship where you are paid at the most minimum wage they can and still keep you. you also have to put up with workplace harassment, terrible politics, and hard hours/labour, which is usually seasonal as well. By the time that 80k/year is hit, the salary won't be worth it since the wages are not rising with inflation.

Regarding cybersecurity, where did you find those stats? My brother has been trying to find jobs in this field, and keeps getting rejected. Thanks!

I was told by one of my managers 20 years ago that instead of me getting a package to leave, I might get a package to stay when I go to retire. I work in network technology.

Hospitals in Ontario are currently announcing that they’re downsizing their nursing staff as cost saving measures (lhsc announced 280 yesterday).

Yeah I remember going into horticulture a couple years ago being told there’d always be job opportunities, they need millions more workers to support the industry, only for it to be peak hiring season and there’s absolutely zero job postings in my city. Trades are not as secure as you’d think.

There is a nursing shortage yet there are very little full time well paid jobs. I have been looking for over a year and I am a veteran in my field! This job search is very hard these days for skilled and experienced workers.

How many of those job losses, I wonder, were the result of Canada no longer extending work permits? And government downsizing?

The issue with the healthcare sector is that the infrastructure is crumbling and people already working in the field are leaving. Nurses, admin, specialists etc. Many new people burn out after a couple of years and jump ship. Several prov governments are deliberately underfunding healthcare. No one wants to work in that.

Canada, US, Germany, UK and more have all been screaming about trades. AI will blow up. Or rather self combust.

Its not like a middle aged man/woman that has recently been laid off from a career they've had for 20 plus years qualify for these jobs that require years of education/experience. Not everyone has the abilities for a select few fields that have high demand.
