For the ppl that say they wanna “run the country like a business” it’s pretty baffling how they don’t understand that a basic principle of business is that you’ll sometimes have to pay costs that don’t return a profit.

Private sector has already replaced mail. It only exists because the government keeps throwing money at it. There’s no reason for it to exist.

the fun part is the USPS actually receives no taxpayer funding, it's ran by it's own revenue and taking on debt, so we could just fund it instead having debates on if it's a business

The usps doesn’t make profit and hasnt made profit for over 15 years. They’re running off of debt and borrowed money. They’re entirely self funded, not by tax payers or the government. They HAVE to do this or find funding from somewhere else.

I love how people complain about UPS and FedEx but then think privatizing USPS would be a good idea. USPS has some issues but cutting funding and privatizing is the opposite of fixing it

I used to get cards and letters all the time from family as a kid. Now in my mid twenties, im the only one in my family who buys postage, and mails out birthday cards over texting.

ups came back to usps after realizing that doing last mile delivery was so expensive. amazon is most likely going to have to go negotiate another contract again. I hope this time usps isn't hemorrhaging money when delivering them

It actually IS supposed to generate revenue. It's self funded, not tax funded The problem is the MASSIVE 75yr retirement prefunding requirement they're forced to pay.
