I don’t think I would condemn a compressor with Megaohm resistances to ground, especially if the units been off for a while.

There not very much training on low voltage field wiring. Floats,Smoke detectors, Fire strobe light ect. Installers don't make it neat and tidy,and no wiring diagram. Birds nest of stat wire doing g whatever...
