People like this really are stuck in the early 2000’s. With distro’s like Mint, Ubuntu, Fedora and Zorin you hardly ever have to open the terminal, if you’re doing “average user shit” (and no, hardcore gamers are not the average user). If you use your PC for a bit of internet surfing, sending an e-mail a day, etc, your instal just works out of the box. And if you do anything more than that you’re probably already a little familiar with the Windows CMD/terminal/powershell. So switching to the Linux terminal shouldn’t be much different, just different commands. But software installation, you’ve got your distro’s software center for that. No need to search the internet to find the app you need and hoping you downloaded from a reputable site. Damn near all “Linux horror stories” stem from its early days. Over the past 20 years it’s grown into a stable and well rounded OS for anyone. It just works a little different from Windows. In the end, use the OS that’s right for you. If that’s Windows, that’s fine. If that’s Linux, that’s fine too.

Actually the best option is macos. You get 90% of the programs that are available on windows or linux, and if there isn’t there is probably a better alternative, you get unix-based system that you can work on with things like nmap, apache etc. You get a great non-crashing ux that looks beautiful, you get crazy performance per watt, and performance for laptops on the latest M-series for example, the programs like adobe premieré, final cut pro and autodesk fusion, you don’t have to worry about the drivers, and is it that overpriced? If you don’t buy from an apple store you can get a great priced laptop. The main issues are that you cannot install another system, except asahi linux, and the gaming isn’t well developed, but still, I can play cyberpunk, crimson desert, ac shadows, no man’s sky, death stranding and there are more titles. So yeah, mac is a great option, but aswell you could choose debian-based distribution that have a lot of tutorials and repositories, and are usually easy to use, arch distros that are meant to give you full control, steamos and nobara, that are specified for gaming, or even windows 11, but I suggest the LTSC version, it is like no buggy and bloatware windows

Linux has a package manager and an app store so you don't even have to use the terminal with the right distro 🤣

I'm not a programmer, but tried Mint. It's fine, but under whelming. Everything just kind of works. The main difference is it's faster, but it doesn't look as polished. It's fine, but it's not worth arguing about.

Heres a thing. You don't need a terminal. These days you can use something like app store. And if you want to use terminal it's literally one command. Linux doesn't need to be difficult. look at SteamOS or Bazzite
