@drranj: Understandably lots of people are worried about the current #meningitis outbreak that is happening in Kent in the UK, and so many of you have questions. So I’m going to try to answer some of them here and hopefully it’ll help (bear with me as it’s a bit of a long one!)… Remember: 👉🏽 Meningitis is rare, but life-threatening - early recognition and treatment are vital. 👉🏽 Signs vary depending on age and where the infection is - babies and children can show different signs. 👉🏽 The rash only appears if the infection is also in the blood (and may look different in darker skin tones) - you might not get it and it’s often a late sign. 👉🏽 Vaccination is one of the best ways to prevent it. We don’t need to panic, but please stay informed and stay safe. Know the signs, trust your instincts, and seek help early. We’re already seeing the usual suspects throwing out misinformation, so PLEASE only get your information from trusted and official sources - and follow local health advice!
