I used to be scared of the ocean 🌊 My parents were Scuba divers when I was growing up, their stories had the opposite effect on me when I was little. They scared me out of the sea, which wasn’t their intention 🤍 it wasn’t till later in life I pushed myself to get over my fear of the ocean. It changed my life, being completely immersed in the most beautiful part of our world 🌎 I’ve had encounters with wildlife in the ocean most people only get to dream of. That’s how I know first hand how delicate it is. The Vaquita is a tiny porpoise (go look them up) that only lives in the very northern tip of the Baja. According to a report from @seashepherd , there are less than 10 left. Last year, the survey counted 6-8 individuals. This years survey starts in September. Commercial fishing of Totoaba (more valuable than coc@in3) has reduced the Vaquitas population to basically extinct. Maybe I’m too sensitive, but the feeling I felt when I learned about Vaquitas at @Museo de la Ballena was so close to grief it inspired me.
