@bristexastails: Life happens, I get that. But when we choose to take on a dog we are choosing to be responsible for a life. That doesn’t change when things get inconvenient, expensive, or overwhelming. Too many times we see people surrender dogs, only to go out and buy another one a few months later. Dogs are given up for reasons that honestly could have been worked through. If you absolutely have to rehome your pet, please do it the right way. Spay and neuter them first. Take the time to make sure they’re going to good, responsible people. Do your due diligence. You owe them that much. They didn’t ask to be born. They didn’t ask to be purchased. They didn’t ask for long hair that sheds everywhere or nails that scratch up your couch. Those are things that come with pet ownership, things you knew when you brought them home. So please don’t act surprised when those realities show up. The shelters can’t hold the weight of everyone’s bad decisions, so the outcome isn’t always a happy ending. A lot of these dogs were born only to end up in a shelter and far too many are euthanized shortly after. Is that fair?
