I clean my chicks brooder every week, although I did have a little bowl of chick grit for a few day when I got the and haven’t gave it to them since, I also don’t take them outside. One of my chicks did have pretty bad pasty butt though when I got it home, but it was really easy to get off

I have a broody hen raising 11 chicks for me. It’s 1000x easier and better than a brooder!! I literally don’t have to do anything but change their water and food. She does everything else.

We do the deep bedding method too! We’ve found that it keeps them warmer and it’s probably less stressful on them.

Yes love this! Because my chickens barely let me open the brooder to feed them let alone to clean it so I just would sneak in some extra pine shavings

I keep it simple too. nothing added to water. once they are feathered they go outside with their chick food and I dont change the bedding that much either lol

question on weather! I have a little over 7 week old chicks now and they have their feathers. the weather is still dipping into high 20s at night though. do you then they can be in an enclosed coop with straw or is that still too cold?

I’m getting my first batch of chicks from a hatchery soon and I got a brooder box for them but I was under the impression they had to stay indoors? At what point could I move the brooder box maybe to a low/no draft shed until they’re ready for the coop. I’m in TN if that helps.
