My father enters the house and tells us all: "Take a bag, and get in the cars." We found ourselves on a long drive, which only years later I realized was actually an escape toward the Israeli border. We didn't realize that we were leaving behind a home, a family, and an entire history. I remember the uncertainty, the tension in the air. Mothers and children were crying, and after a long 48-hour wait at the fence, in one single moment, we became refugees in Israel. A Lebanese family, a 6-year-old boy, I find myself in less than two days moving between worlds. Between a village in Lebanon and a religious city in Israel. A different language, a different culture, a completely foreign place. That is how my journey in the country began.
