ppl recommending streamio and stuff are missing the point. i dont want to pay for streaming. i use jellyfin because im in control of my media library and can use it forever. i wont have data loss, i run it on a cheap 2 drive NAS which mirrors. ill never pay for 5 different streaming services again

jellyfin is so much better than plex imo but since its open source, onboarding isnt as concrete as plex. Plex you tell them to sign up, give you their username, and they can search plex on any platform’s appstore and they can watch. Onboarding is such a huge aspect if your sharing with multiple people who dont know how to use the internet. Plex is so money hungry but i cant change cuz no other onboarding is better

All the people who own nothing are mad at this. Yes I would rather spend much more to actually own my stuff than pay each month for access to lower quality compressed Netflix slop content.

You should check out Gelato. I switch to it after one too many disk failed in my storage. Now I pay real debrid cheaper than electricity bill for the disks and I no longer download stuff, Gelato takes care of finding it and playing it live. Jellyfin search bar is linked to tmdb apj
