To be fair, he was already in the process of flipping it thinking it was a ball before the strike call was even made. By this rule players need to not move and wait for a call even if it's 3 feet off the plate in case someone Angel's it up.

So the Brewers got their green/red card shutdown because the challenge has to come without input from the dugout. It’s possible, just looking at the video, that the ump felt or noticed him make eye contact with the dugout before the challenge (wouldn’t surprise me with the Astros TBH). The bat flip assuming ball 4 is automatic. Every player does it on every 3 ball count to try to sway the call, so I don’t really give that motion any weight. Just my 2 cents
