I moved beyond the obsession with #death , in the sense that I reached the conclusion that the great… at bottom, the key to everything is not death, it’s birth. The tragedy is not dying, but being born. And so it’s a shift… and that doesn’t prevent one from still being haunted by the idea of death, obviously. But the key, all around that… so the conclusion I arrived at is that, fundamentally, it would have been better not to be born. Yes, we are here, but still—the great problem is birth, and not death.
