@sam_jarman: $30,000,000 at retirement… Sounds insane, right? Especially when it starts with just $50/month. But this is what happens when you combine time + compounding + a Roth IRA. Start early, let it grow for decades, and once that money is inside a Roth… → the growth can be 100% tax-free That’s the part most people sleep on. It’s not just how much you make — it’s how much you keep. At ~15% returns (what VOO has averaged over the last 10 years), the math shows what’s possible over a long period. The earlier you start, the less you actually have to invest. Consistency > everything (Not guaranteed. Just showing the power of time and tax-free compounding.)

Your math ain’t mathin. 529 at $50/mo plan since birth until 18 will not get $54k unless the529 invests it risky. And they don’t invest risky the closer the child gets to 18 . Do your research.

You can only deposit as much into a ROTH as they have actually earned in a year, up to 7500.00. So, if your child/teenager is not working, you cannot contribute to a ROtH. But, as soon as they start working, start saving! The earlier the ROTH contributions start, the better for them!

And if they use their college fund to simply convert to a retirement fund, how do they pay for college?

Fyi, Roth IRAs have income limits, so I don’t think they can contribute till 65. I am in my early 30s, so I can’t contribute because of income limits.
