401k is your salary for the time in your life that you cannot work. If you want to retire, put money in a 401k. If you want to work for the rest of your entire life then I guess you can skip it…. I’m currently maxing mine out so I can retire on time.

I had 30k fully vested when i lost my job at 29 and was able to take some of that money out and pay all my bills/ pay off some debt and not stress while looking for a new job….i would have been completely screwed without it
