As a nurse, yes… people definitely do this. Some people will call me into their room for anything they can think of all night, and it’s very obviously because they’re lonely/bored, but unfortunately, I don’t have time to just hang out with them all night. So I’ve learned to ask them a bunch of questions while I’m in there so I can get it all done at once and avoid coming back. Do you need a drink/snacks/pain medicine? Another pillow or blanket? Blinds closed/lights on or off? Occasionally, I’ll get one that is clearly upset that I avoided having to come back… so they’ll push their button and say they’re suddenly having chest pain… and then they have me, a phlebotomist, and RT in there to keep them company for a bit 🤦🏻♀️lol
