@lys.beck: We Will Be Jaguars: A Memoir of My People. - Nemonte Nenquimo is a memoir of her life and her experiences growing up as an indigenous woman in the Amazon. I always give memoirs 5⭐️- it’s a person’s story so who am I to rate it.

I read this late last year and it broke me wide open. It really challenged soooo many assumptions and biases I didn’t even realize I held. I think the piece that shook me the most was how close she is to my age (just a few years older) and taking in her radically different childhood than my own, grappling with how there were still largely untouched indigenous societies THAT recently, and how the West continues to infiltrate and destroy them….
