@skiptomyluluj: I'm having flashbacks to the days of panic buying during covid. Its understandable that people are concerned about food prices and I acknowledge how privileged I am to be able to purchase a few extra items for my pantry. During times like this its important to look out for each other, stockpiling food causes way more harm than good. I'll probably drop some of the extra tins and shelf stable items to my local food pantry soon for those who are really doing it tough.

The people I know that are stockpiling are doing so because they are scared they won’t be able to afford food so they’re buying what they can now 🥲

The farmers are telling us that in 3-6 months they may have no crops to sell to the supermarkets because they have no diesel right now to plant the crops and no fertiliser to put on the crops. This is not like covid, if you buy Australian made goods, the shelves could be bare. The farmers also said that if any products do make it to the supermarket. expect to pay a lot more for them. I am stocking up a little bit more each week. I can't afford to pay up to 50% extra for my groceries.

The situation is way worse than Covid. This affects supply chain of food.

when im using 1 item, I'll admit i like to have 1 or 2 back up of said item (depending on what it is) but never go actually crazy and have 100s of everything. (its a small stock up, NOT stockpile) 💗

Dont judge and remember everyone's situation is different. I live rurally, you can bet that I'm going to buy PLENTY more than usual because I don't have easy, nearby access to groceries. The price of petrol for me to do a grocery run is exorbitant.

I’m a single mum who only moved out of my married home a few months ago. My pantry was empty and I have limited resources. I’m terrified of the cost of food going up. I have no buffer I work full time already. People “stock pilling” might just be trying to have the pantry you already have. Or might need a bigger food buffer because they can’t afford a food increase. Anyway like with COVID we might all be in the same storm but we are in different boats.

I think this will affect things more than it did during covid times. It’s not just fuel, Australias biggest commercial fertilizer supplier is sold out for the season & they are only able to get 25% of the stuff they ordered for the following season, so that will affect growers and their harvests combined with fuel prices. I think we will start to see the effects more 3-6 months from now rather than a huge immediate spike. Buying an extra few things that you consume regularly each week is sensible esp if you have kids. No need to hoard to panic buy but being prepared particularly for tougher weeks is important esp as things get tighter financially.

Its not stockpiling. It is called prepping. Our food relies on diesel to fuel trucks.

The egg product… is that only used in baking or mixed with water would it make a scrambled egg? I’ve never seen it before just wondering.

How many do you cook for though? and do you live in a city or rural, where transportation of food will be compromised first?
